Over the next few months, well be bringing you the complete story behind the inspiration, design and development of the Newton Lowboyz 1/64 scale models currently available from Mattel Hot Wheels Collectibles division.

| When my "Lowboyz" group of custom car ideas became a Limited Edition Hot Wheels Die Cast "3-box" set, they were presented initially with packaging illustrations and graphics that I had designed specifically for the "First Tool" offering. After this original three-box version sold out, which happened almost immediately, Mattel began selling the cars in the Hot Wheels Collectibles standard boxes, but with different paint, graphics, interior and exterior colors. So for the past four years, each car has been redone a number of times, and they continue to be offered in these varied and colorful versions, as shown below (on this page). These models differ considerably from the normal "99¢ Hot Wheels" found literally everywhere. They have "one-off" wheels & tires, interiors, undercarriage details, hoods that open and the tooling for the engines include 2-piece castings. In my opinion, quite a bit for such tiny models. |
