A speculative look at just how future
rodders will be "taking it to the streets"
.
During the next twenty or thirty years, we should expect some righteous trickle-down technology from racing, and some interesting street machines to lust after. One innovation that would be really welcome is a way to individualize a vehicle on the assembly line. Eventually, if we could overcome the inherent problems created by insurance and warrantee constrictions, we might punch in our personal specs and take delivery on our own truly unique piece of iron (make that "integrated polymer-and-alloy Computer Assisted Design assembly"). With that wet-dream in mind, let’s look at some concepts for possible ultra-high performance retro-rods of the future.
2032 Deuce -- If you look real close, you can see some "Deuce" in this Pocket Rocket Rod. It’s a "100th Anniversary" concept that counts on cutting-edge "future tech" to justify it’s space-age specs, so before you dismiss this as an impossible plan, think about the tremendous flexibility that may become available with fuel-cell and fly-by-wire technology, where concessions to retro-style would make hydrodynamic channel-venting look like flamboyant exhaust pipes, and occupant safety cocoons look like high-rail hot rod bodywork.
Swoop-Coupe -- Subtle is the reflection of familiar lines seen in this streamlined version of Henry’s fabulous 1933 Ford three-window coupe (which remains an icon in the world of hot rodding). As un-aerodynamic as that car was, with its air-scooping clamshell fenders and flat windshield, this "tribute double-trey" uses the shapes and forms of yesteryear to its advantage. From the "Daytona Prototype" flow-through nose to its downforce-generating rear defusers, it’s even slicker than it appears.
KwikRodz -- No great feats of engineering are implied with these quick sketch ideas; they were penned to simply stimulate the imagination. Three Ultralight Roadster-Rods of Tomorrow designed with wings’n’things that are race-tech inspired, meant to scoot & handle like a bunch of oversized, overpowered go-carts. The theme here is simply "stylin’ & pro-filin’", so "be my guess", and use your own aggression when it comes to speculating on the specs for this tricky trio.
