Special to Motorburg
by Nelson Dewey

The first Star Wars movie came out in 1977, and I loved it! It was ground-breaking and original and fascinating to watch!
I knew I had to do my own version, and since I was busy drawing for CARtoons, why not do a parody with an automotive slant…

(Okay, so the comic books were printed in black and white. I did this splash panel with some quick coloring just to brighten up the page.)

That said, enjoy a look back at a classic parody!

I remember that Car Wars parody too well. It combined my two biggest interests at the time, Cars and Science Fiction. How cool!!! Although they are long gone, you work often inspired me to come up with my own short comic stories. One I remember well was a cartoon of my brother and I fitting a blown Hemi into his Schwinn Sting Ray bicycle and the hair raising ride that ensued. Thanks for being one of the many greats to inspire me to continue drawing cars throughout my lifetime.
