Recently (early 2013) Hot Rod Magazine staged a car show at the Pomona Fairplex. The cars on display inside the various halls were only cars that had been featured in Hot Rod Magazine during their 65 year history. Since my roadster was in Hot Rod twice I had the car on display. Limefire was there as well but Brizio didn't make it with his '32. I had contacted the Hot Rod editors about trying to put all three cars together but that didn't happen. My car and Limefire weren't even in the same building. I had called Roy about it but by the time I told him about it, it was really too late for him to get his roadster into the show.

It was a very interesting show as cars were there from all over the U.S., Canada, and even a few from Australia. Some of these cars had signs out that said this was the first time the cars had been out of storage in many, many years. One roadster was being displayed for the first time in 50 years. And it looked it.

It was back while he was working on the Cars movie that I first emailed Dave. I don't remember exactly what it was I asked him but it was about his art. I never thought I would hear from him figuring he would be like most big name artist's that have little or no time to answer emails but I figured "nothing ventured etc." To say the least I was more than surprised when I got an email from him the next day. He and I exchanged a number of emails mostly about the "how to" going back to the day when I read almost every CarToons mag. Dave was a genuine person, not caught up with the fame and bright lights that usually come with being recognised. To take the time like he did to talk to me like he knew me for years was most impresive which I keep in high regard to this day. Even more so now that I have spent some time with the Marine Corps. OOU RAH Marine.

Thinking about the '39 "Sharknose" Graham on Woodward last August, lowered with nice custom wheels and paint, but otherwise left entirely stock, I would strongly suggest that if we are talking about a Nash Airflyte with intact sheet metal, that we not chop it up! These cars are already so unique and rare that by only mildly customizing them in this way, leaving the original trim and rare badging, the result is a mind-blowing cruiser that honors the forward thinking of the period design. The laid-back windshield in the excellent art looks great, but leaving that wrap-around glass with those little wipers is even cooler, especially with the visor! And we have to consider how great those amber-glowing sealed-beam "eyes" look on the prowl at twilight.
(P.S. Thanks, Ed, for the "Condemned" design on my shirt back in the '60s! I felt like the coolest kid in the neighborhood , riding my friend, 'Skip's' mini-bike around the kid-filled streets here in Royal Oak, Michigan!)

This is interesting to read. My father, Jack Ferrell, was in the band, The Caps. He would be interested to read this. I am in the process not of trying to get their music turned into mp3 files. If you'd like, once I get this accomplished I can burn the songs to a disc and send you a copy. "Red Headed Flea" will be included as well.

You can feel free to contact me at sferrell81@yahoo.com

Rick:

Thanks for the input. I did visit a couple of Ray's restaurants, both before I left Virginia and since although the last time I was there he was still living. I am not a seafood fan so never ate at The Fish Market, which I believe is now being run by Ray's son. I have been inside the door of the place.

Odd that he never talked about his days in the performance market and heavy involvement in the racing scene during the famous cam wars.

I worked for Ray Giovannoni in his second life as a restauranteur, in Alexandria (Va.). It's funny, he never mentioned his motorsport background. I'm amazed.

His flagship restaurant, The Fish Market, was really the catalyst that led to the boom in the 'Old Town' section of Alexandria. 'Mr. Ray' was a visionary and in some ways a genius, if such a term can be applied to a restaurant owner. The Fish Market was a big place, yet we had waiting lines every weekend. In the beginning, Ray slept upstairs in his office- a couple of years later, he could catch a few winks on his yacht, moored at the city dock on the Potomac, a couple of hundred yards from the restaurant.

Guy

I called the other day and left a message on your business voicemail. I wrote a lot o stuff over the years but that does not come to mind. That, of course, doesn't mean i didn't write it.

Happy New year
